Introduction to using DAX & Power Pivot (2 days)
Microsoft Power Pivot is a must-have tool for anyone who needs to analyse data from multiple sources and of multiple types. Power Pivot is a free add-in for Microsoft Excel* – it allows users to connect to and analyse data from a wide variety of sources, such as; Excel workbook / worksheet, Access database, SQL, SSAS and more. Power Pivot significantly extends the functionality of the standard Excel Pivot table. At the heart of Power Pivot is a functional language called DAX (Data Analysis Expression). DAX allows users to create basic and more complex expressions that manipulate the data held within the data model. The DAX syntax closely aligns with Excel’s functional language so Excel users normally find the transition to DAX less daunting.
During this 2 day training course you will learn:
- How to load data from Power Query directly into Power Pivot
- How to load data directly into Power Pivot from other sources; Excel, CSV, Access and others
- The difference between Excel and Power Pivot as a data analysis tool
- The basic principles of data modelling, filter and row context
- How to create basic ‘measures’ and ‘calculated columns’ and use these to manipulate data in the data model
- How to use some of the most common DAX functions to extend the power of the Power Pivot data model
